Nicuessa Lodge is Costa Rica’s Unique Adventure Destination
What if you could take the entire family on a unique adventure destination at an isolated jungle setting that’s home to scarlet macaws, toucans, monkeys and more? What if you could only get there by boat and the warm jade-green waters of Golfo Dulce, a playground for dolphins and whales, were mere yards from the front door? Playa Nicuesa Rainforest Lodge, on a 165-acre private reserve in Piedras Blancas National Park, is just such a place.
You and your family can enjoy just the right blend of adventure and family time at Nicuesa in one of the most bio-diverse areas in the world. Whether it’s water sports or rainforest adventure, there are plenty of options for playing and learning about the beauty of Piedras Blancas. Together with Corcovado National Park, just across the gulf, limitless opportunities for exploration and education are on your doorstep.
Because of its environmentally sensitive design and operation, the Costa Rica Tourism Board has awarded the lodge its highest ranking for sustainable tourism. The lodge, built with recycled and sustainably harvested materials, incorporates solar electricity, black- and grey-water separation, rainwater management, and other strategies to minimize its environmental impact.
Accommodations at the lodge are as intimate as you like, featuring sustainable design principles in the private cabins, Jaguar House, and Mango Guest House. Mango Guest House, surrounded (naturally) by mango trees, has four private rooms over two stories and open views of the surrounding rainforest. Let the waves soothe you to sleep in the two-story Jaguar House, with its jungle backdrop and three bedrooms. Each of the private cabins nestles in the rainforest, giving you and your family 360-views of the jungle.
Family activity options range from self-directed and unstructured to guided adventure tours suitable for everyone—from hiking, kayaking and horseback riding to sunbathing, foraging and yoga. Trail options include easy flat paths and strenuous climbs into the rainforest. Young and old alike can learn how to open coconuts, how to pineapples grow, and which insects are sweet and tasty (really!). You can also choose from several family adventure packages:
· Kayak/snorkel Golfo Dulce
· Río Esquinas mangrove tour
· Golfo Dulce boat/dolphin tour
· Rainforest/waterfall hikes in Piedras Blancas National Park
On the other hand, you can go fishing for your dinner entrée, on- or off-shore; take a night or twilight hike for a better look at the shier inhabitants, visit the lodge garden to pick fresh produce or tour lodge facilities to learn about its sustainable practices. You can also ask for more information about the wildlife, plant life, bugs, marine mammals and conservation, Playa Nicuesa has slideshows and presentations to inform and entertain you.
The restaurant’s chefs incorporate the mangoes, star fruit, papayas, Malay apples, bananas and coconuts grown on the reserve, as well as the lodge’s own garden and fish from Golfo Dulce to create the lodge’s exceptional and unforgettable menu. Meals are served family-style on the open-air veranda that overlooks Golfo Dulce and the Osa Peninsula. Chances are very good that you can watch Pacific humpback whales, dolphins and sea turtles in the gulf waters just offshore while you enjoy your meal under the rainforest canopy. If owner Michael happens to be dining with you, be sure to ask him about his impressive rum collection; you may even be treated to a tasting!
Playa Nicuesa Rainforest Lodge blends comfort and environmental protection to create a very special setting for your family’s adventure vacation. What makes it so exceptional are its carefully managed design and operations and its isolated perch rainforest and the Pacific. The lodge offers a selva y mar experience the whole family will treasure forever. You’ve come to a tropical paradise full of adventure and peace.
