A converted Tropical Victorian mansion, the Grano de Oro Boutique hotel offers the warmth and comfort of staying in a private home with all the amenities of a Luxury hotel.

Situated on a shady street just off Paseo Colón, San José’s main thoroughfare, Hotel Grano de Oro is a sanctuary in the heart of the city. The hotel's charming atriums and corridors are filled with the ambiance of old San José. A lush tropical walkway leads to a rooftop terrace that offers soothing Jacuzzis and a spot for secluded sunbathing, perfect for a Costa Rica honeymoon.

Our Luxury Hotel in Costa Rica, Hotel Grano de Oro, features 38 guest rooms in four categories as well as two signature suites. Rooms are furnished in Tropical Victorian styles with wrought-iron beds and rich fabrics handcrafted by Costa Rican artists. No two rooms are alike and all are designated smoke-free.

The Hotel Grano de Oro is located about 20 minutes from the international airport and 10 minutes from the domestic airport, this San José hotel is ideally located for exploring San José, it’s museums and other local sites as well as for enjoying a host of day trips to the rainforest, volcanoes or experiencing the thrill of white water rafting.

San Jose is ideally located for easy access to the attractions of other cities in the Central Valley, such as Cartago, Heredia or Alajuela.

San José is the metropolitan capital of Costa Rica and also a political, cultural, and commercial center. It is considered one of Latin America’s safest cities and is the country’s largest city, located in the Central Valley on relatively flat land, surrounded by fertile hills. It is about 1150 meters (3770 ft.) above sea level. The weather is warm with temperatures between 17 - 30°C (63 - 86°F) year round and an average humidity of 68%.

The restaurant has the charming ambiance of a magnificent period home with an elegant inner courtyard that is not to be missed. The Grano de Oro houses an award winning wine cellar. Enjoy a glass of wine from our Premium Wine menu or a refreshing tropical cocktail after a long day of touring or an afternoon of relaxing. Open from 7am to 10pm daily.

The service at the Restaurant Grano de Oro is the perfect blend of congeniality and complete indulgence; the staff offers the professional yet friendly assistance that defines a state-of-the-art guest experience. Rated one of the top restaurants in Costa Rica, French chef, Francis Canal, merges classic French and fresh Mediterranean cuisine.

The restaurant echoes the gracious hospitality of the hotel itself. Guests enjoy drinks in a cozy parlor setting with elegant furnishings or at the hand-carved bar, which offers an inside or outside option. Dining space is intimate and warm with an ambiance that welcomes everyone as an honored guest. The inside dining room surrounds an elegant inner courtyard in which guests may also dine. Evocative Spanish instrumentals set the mood.

Restaurante Grano de Oro serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily from 7a.m. to 10p.m. Coffee, juice and continental fare can be requested even earlier.

The superb cuisine is complemented by a wine list boasting excellent choices from around the world. Restaurante Grano de Oro houses an award winning wine cellar. Created and managed by our Restaurant’s General Manager/Co-Owner, Ciro De Angelis, our cellar houses over 140 labels and more than 1800 bottles of wine. These wines are hand chosen to pair with our menu. Enjoy a glass of wine from our Premium Wine menu after a long day of touring or an afternoon of relaxing.

And, of course, the pinnacle of any lunch or dinner at Grano de Oro is dessert. The signature Grano de Oro Pie is a decadent blend of coffee and chocolate while the lighter Soufflé Glace a la Naranja ensures there is always room for dessert.

All the rooms in this elegant turn-of-the-century mansion feature air conditioning and ceiling fans, 300 thread-count linens, flat-screen TVs and Simmons Beauty Rest Pillow-top mattresses. A Family Suite consists of two rooms with an adjoining shared bath, offering plenty of room for up to 5 people. The luxurious Garden Suite, once the original living room of this converted mansion, offers a private tropical garden and spacious seating area, 2 flat screen TV’s and a king sized bed.

The hotel’s signature Vista de Oro Suite, reached by a private staircase, commands breathtaking views of the Central Valley skyline. The suite reflects the turn-of-the-century style of the original home with handmade tiles and rich wood paneling.
