Enjoy the most amazing experience looking for birds early in the morning or late afternoon. There are two spectacular places to go on this tour. Hacienda Baru Wildlife Refuge offers two options: Lowland Birdwatching Hiking or Rainforest Birdwatching Hiking. Oro Verde Nature Reserve Nature Reserve offers the Birdwatching tour two daily times.
The second best spot in Costa Rica for scuba diving and snorkeling because of its visibility about 20 meters (50 ft) and has lots of species of fish, turtles, manta rays, dolphins, whales and….friendly sharks. On the Island, a well maintained trail leads uphill into a rain forest environment where you can see trees 50 meters high. The island is also an archeologist place since there were found over there pre colonial perfect spheres used by the indigenous. There is a chance to see dolphins, and humpback and pilot whales, depending on the season.
Experience the interesting flora and fauna Hacienda Baru has to offer. While you walk through the jungle you are accompanied by two guides who are trained in spotting wildlife. Especially the flights over the tops of the trees, in the middle of the jungle are something you have to experience.
The humpback whales season goes from January thru April and July thru November. The tour takes about 3 or 4 hours looking for whales and dolphins. There are also snorkeling tours inside the Marine National Park . You can always take the combination of the four highlights of the Marine Park (whales, dolphins, snorkeling, caves & islands)
Hacienda Baru Wildlife Refuge has 7 kilometers of beautiful rainforest trails where you can explore a rich diversity of habitats. These include primary and secondary forest, wetland, grassland, and mangrove swamp. There are trails which meander through the lowland to the beach. Others will take you into the highland where you will find magnificent views of the coast.
There are lots of opportunities to spot and learn about wildlife and the places where they live. The “Path of Discovery” guide will help you understand about the different types of habitat and learn interesting things about the rainforest. Informative signs are located at appropriate sites along the trails with interesting narrative and photos about flora, fauna and ecosystems.
There are different attractions inside the Refuge such as The Butterfly Garden which has a representative sample of local species of butterflies for you enjoyment. The Orchid Garden gets a close-up view of these riches from the rainforest canopy. The Birding Watching Tower located near of the Strangler Trail is a great place in the early morning or late afternoon to watch for birds and other wildlife around. The Baru Beach with 3 kilometers of pristine coastline protected by the Refuge offers the impressive mouth of Baru River and its mangrove swamp.
This is one of the highlights in the area. You cannot miss this wonderful tour. These horseback riding tours are through a farm that borders with two amazing waterfalls of the Barucito River. These wonderful waterfalls are the second biggest waterfalls in the area and it is also the main attraction not only because its natural beauty which gives unforgettable moments, but also to do different outdoors activities, like climbing the falls, swimming, jumping into the deep waters and bird watching
