“Our plan was to create a place that offers the comfort of a lodge and the activities and diversity of an adventure tour. “
With the ocean as front yard, and thousands of acres of tropical rainforest in the backyard; beach, nature and adventure activities abound at Playa Nicuesa. The ocean is calm and invites for a swim, snorkel- or kayaking trip along the coastline through nearby mangroves. The rainforest, full of fruit trees and tropical flowering plants calls the adventurous and nature lovers alike, for unforgettable hikes on extensive trails, accompanied by the sound of howler monkeys and exotic birds and surrounded by lush green vegetation. Rest and relaxation is easy in these tranquil surroundings; how about relaxing in a hammock by the sea, listening to the soothing sounds of the waves and looking out on mountain views.
Playa Nicuesa Rainforest Lodge Private Trails
On our 165-acre preserve there are numerous trails that wind through the rainforest canopy, all perfect for all levels of guided and self-guided hikes. We have selectively sited view terraces to observe wildlife or just relax and enjoy the solitude of nature.
National Park Trails
Our property abuts the Piedras Blancas National Park. Several private trails on the preserve connect with trails in the national park. Since access to the park is through private properties accessible by boat only, you can be guaranteed little to no encounters with other people… making your experience truly one-with-nature.
Santuario Silvestre Wildlife Sanctuary
Its mission is to be a rescue center for the wildlife in the southern zone of Costa Rica. The Sanctuary offers an incredible opportunity for guests to learn from area and visiting experts about the rescue, release and rehabilitation of local wildlife. Only reachable by boat, is located a beautiful 15 minute boat ride from Playa Nicuesa Rainforest Lodge. The tour when combined with a beautiful boat ride is a unique 3 hour excursion from Playa Nicuesa.
Dolphin Tour and Coastal Adventure
This is a wonderful tour of the Golfo Dulce, a spectacular, protected gulf off the Pacific Ocean. You have a great chance to see at least one of the three types of Dolphins most common in the Golfo Dulce (spinner, spotted and bottlenose). You will spend several hours touring the blue, green waters of the Gulf looking for dolphins, sea turtles and marine birds with one of the Nicuesa's guides and boat captains. You will also stop for a snorkel at one of the area's reefs and/or a secluded beach to swim and enjoy fresh coconut and other snacks. Guest will learn about the natural and cultural history of the Gulf, one of the deepest in the world, and one of the few tropical fiords that exist. (This tour is approximately 4 hours)
Family Adventures – Nature’s Classroom
Your kids won't know that Playa Nicuesa's tours are educational because they will be having too much fun. They'll learn how to open coconuts, find out how pineapples grow, and learn about local insects. They can even eat sweet tasting termites! We also offer many opportunities for spontaneous self guided adventures from jumping into the Gulf for a swim, or taking a breathtaking kayak discovery-ride, or a variety of hikes ranging from easy flat walks to steep climbs into the primary rain forest.
Yoga classes
are based on the teachings of Iyengar, Kripalu and Kundalini Yoga. Each session is an opportunity to explore the body through cultivating a connection to breath and movement, building flexibility and strength through alignment principles, and exploring the wisdom of the body through self expression and attunement to prana.
Other activities include: Kayaking, River Tours, Sailing, Horseback Riding, Mountain Biking, Tropical Botanic Garden Tours, Surfing (day-trip), Inshore Fishing, Big Game Sport Fishing (Playa Nicuesa will cook your catch for your dinner!)
