Vacationing in Costa Rica can feel more authentic when you rub elbows with the locals; and, your local farmer’s market or street fair is just the place to do it!
No matter where you are, hitting up the local farmer’s market can be a world of fun and Costa Rica is no different. With great markets in every town, and on different days to boot, you’re bound to find a good one while traveling this beautiful country.
Full of vibrant energy, local artisans, good food, craft jewelry, clothing, live music, and deliciously organic local fruits, vegetables, cheeses, herbs, breads and more the local famer’s market (feria verde) or street fair of any beach town, or San Jose, can be a great way to spend a Costa Rica morning or afternoon.

San Jose’s Feria Verde on Tuesdays & Saturdays.

The Feria Verde is a wonderful organic farmers market in which features organic fruits and vegetables, as well as artisan cheeses, salsas, breads, pastas, arts, crafts, jewelry, and more.
This market takes place on the East side of San Jose in Aranuez on Saturday mornings from 7:00am to 12:00pm, and on the West side of San Jose, in Cuidad Colon, on Tuesday afternoons from 1:00pm to 7:00pm.
A wonderful way to spend a morning, or afternoon, the market typically boasts live music, local artists, delicious food venders, arts and crafts, jewelry, incense, candles, hand-crafted soaps and essential oils, clothing, and more.
Jaco Beach’s Feria Verde on Friday Mornings.
South End of Avenida Pastor Diaz; from town center, turn right at the Palacio Municipal, then right again near the post office.
Not necessarily organic (though you will find some organic produce stands) this local farmer’s market is a great place to meet up with and make new friends, shop for your weekly produce, cheese, bread, fish and meat, and browse local artisan clothing and jewelry.
Manuel Antonio/Quepos Feria Verde on Friday Nights & Saturday Mornings.
Situated near the marina in Quepos.
This local farmer’s market is a simple one, mainly featuring fruits and veggies, but there are also a few artisan clothing and jewelry stands. Organic produce isn’t the main offering here, but you’ll find great prices on fruits and vegetables.
Manuel Antonio artisan street fair- daily.
Located near the entrance to Manuel Antonio National Park.
I visit this street fair every time I am in Manuel Antonio, if for no other reason than to stock up on a few new batik throws. This street fair is the place to go if you want to find beaded jewelry, batik beach wraps and throws, t-shirts, local artist paintings, Costa Rica souvenirs, and more. Most stalls have decent prices, but a little bit of haggling and comparison shopping can save you even more.
Tamerindo’s Feria Verde on Saturday mornings from 7am to noon.
Located next to Restaurante Pescador in the Alfaro Lot, Tamarindo town center.
Mostly manned by local expats, this market is a great place to find organic fruits and vegetables, freshly baked breads, cheeses, essential oils, incense, candles, art, artisan jewelry, clothing, and other crafty comforts that will really get you into the surf vibe that is Tamarindo.
